Dipped Candles

These candles are exquisite to look at and are artistic in nature. They are long, cylindrical, tube-like candles that have a narrowing snout at the top. They are generally seen in an array of colors. They are also known as dipped tapers.

These are made primarily using beeswax and paraffin wax. With that said, you can also use soy wax to create dipped tapers. However, should you intend to do that, it is good to know that the soy wax will need a longer set up time between the layers. For this example, you can work with either the beeswax or the paraffin wax.

The reason why beeswax is used more commonly to create these tapers is the fact that melted beeswax is more viscous. This means that you will need to do less ‘dipping’, as compared to paraffin wax. You may only need to dip it between seven to 10 times, whereas for the paraffin, you will need to dip twice as much. It is also to be noted that the beeswax tapers burn a little longer, as opposed to their paraffin counterparts.

In case you are someone who is on a tighter budget, you can always opt to use paraffin as your choice of wax. It will take a lot more dipping than the beeswax to achieve the kind of thickness you are looking for. However, you can rest assured that you will still end up with exquisite results using paraffin. For paraffin users, it is preferred that you use straight paraffin with a medium or high melting point. Some types of paraffin wax melt at lower temperatures, so those are the kind you should avoid.

You can find some types of paraffin wax with medium melting points, and should be able to take advantage of the hardening additives. These would give your tapers a more rigid look and feel. One of the most common hardening additives found in paraffin wax is called stearic acid, also known as stearine. Whatever you choose between the beeswax or the paraffin, you can achieve the desired results.
